Nuclear power, Parisi: "It is only a distraction, commercially useless"

Rome, June 9 (LaPresse) – "The problem is that we have an enormous availability of solar-based energy, but in order to use it, it is also necessary to modernise the grid. Therefore, nuclear power is currently a distraction from the real energy problems we have in Italy and that need to be solved in a different direction." This was stated by Nobel Prize winner Giorgio Parisi on the sidelines of an event at the Nazareno. "The problem we have with nuclear power in general is that installation costs are extremely high and that, to be commercially useful, it must be used at 100% capacity. Solar energy will cost much less than nuclear power and will be widely available in summer and during the day. Therefore, nuclear plants will have to be shut down for long periods, making them commercially very ineffective," he added.
