Football: Racist Chant Against Vlahovic, €20,000 Fine for Fiorentina

Rome, Dec. 31 (LaPresse) – The sports judge has imposed a €20,000 fine on Fiorentina for racist chants directed at Dusan Vlahovic by Viola fans during the match against Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.

According to the ruling, Fiorentina was penalized "because its supporters, in the 6th minute of the first half, forced the referee to suspend the game for about two minutes due to a discriminatory chant against a player from the opposing team. As per protocol, an announcement against discrimination was made; the fans involved in the chant were estimated by the Federal Prosecutor's collaborators to comprise 30% of the fans present in the sector (955). After the announcement and thanks to the proactive intervention of Fiorentina's captain, no further chants of this nature occurred.

The public order officials were unable to determine with sufficient certainty which sector of the stadium’s fans was involved," the statement reads.
