Rome, Feb. 19 (LaPresse) – Jasmine Paolini has been eliminated in the Round of 16 at the WTA 1000 tournament in Dubai, the first WTA 1000 event of the season. The Italian was defeated by American Sofia Kenin in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0.
Italy’s No. 1 ended the match with a right ankle injury. During the opening game of the second set, while trailing 30-0 on her serve, she injured herself after planting her foot awkwardly while moving to her left and collapsed to the ground. Paolini remained on the court in tears for several minutes before receiving medical assistance.
