Serie A, Inter beats Monza 3-2 in comeback and extends lead

Milan, 8th Mar. (LaPresse) – Inter imitate their cousins Milan and come back from two goals down to beat Monza 3-2 at San Siro, just like the Rossoneri did in Lecce. Three points less than expected for Simone Inzaghi's team, who extend their lead at the top of the table. The Nerazzurri now have a 4-point lead over Napoli, who play Fiorentina on Sunday, and a 6-point lead over Atalanta, who will visit Juventus in the postponed match. Monza are increasingly last, but they leave the Meazza with their heads held high. At Inter, Inzaghi fields Lautaro Martinez and Arnautovic up front, Thuram starts on the bench. Bastoni plays once again on the left given the absence of Dimarco. Josep Martinez is confirmed in goal. It's Monza who surprisingly take the lead at half time against Inter. After a goal disallowed for handball to Lautaro, Birindelli broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, taking advantage of an assist from Mota Carvalho and beating Martinez. Former player Keita scored the second goal in the 44th minute with a splendid right-footed shot on the turn at the far post that left the Argentinean goalkeeper with no chance. In the final minute of the first half, Arnautovic's header in the 46th minute reduced the deficit for Inter, again thanks to a Dumfries header. Inzaghi's Nerazzurri had an angry second half, pouring into the opposition area at a very high pace. Monza tried to defend in an organised manner, but Dumfries came close to equalising with a powerful right-footed shot from an angled position. Turati saved. In the 63rd minute, Inter equalised through Calhanoglu with a right-footed shot from the edge of the box that was low, precise and unstoppable for the goalkeeper. With over half an hour to play, it was only a matter of time before Inter made it 3-2, and sure enough, in the 77th minute, captain Lautaro Martinez headed in a cross from the left by Carlos Augusto, albeit with the help of Kyriakopoulos. The goal was validated thanks to goal line technology that made Turati's last-ditch attempt to save it a vain one. Now in the lead, Inter played with ease, almost scoring four goals with Thuram hitting a post in a counterattack. But it would have been too much of a punishment for Nesta and his boys.
