Football: Vardy leaves Leicester after 13 years, club ‘was the greatest’

Turin, Apr 24 (LaPresse/AP) – A few days after being relegated to the Championship, Jamie Vardy announced his farewell to Leicester (but not to football) after 13 years, culminating with the historic Premier League triumph in 2016. The English striker scored 143 goals in the English league, 15th on the all-time goalscorer list. ‘Nine years ago we did the impossible: win the Premier League,’ said Vardy in a video message in which he also recalled the 2021 Fa Cup triumph and reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2017, ’Those memories will last a lifetime. My only regret, and I'm devastated about it, is not being able to say goodbye after a better season. I didn't want to end my adventure here like this'. At 38, new doors will open for Vardy. ‘I'm not retiring, I want to keep playing and doing what I enjoy most: scoring,’ he concluded. ’I hope to make one or two more for Leicester before the end of the season and many more in the future.
