The Nigerian international was injured when he collided with a goalpost after coming on as a substitute in the second half of Sunday's 2-2 draw with Leicester. According to British media reports, Awoniyi was placed in a medically induced coma to aid his recovery from Monday's operation, and the treatment will help to restrict his movements and regulate his heart rate. Forest released a statement after Awoniyi's operation saying he was ‘recovering well.’
