Internazionali, Alcaraz: “Sinner? I can't be friends with a rival”

Rome, May 17 (LaPresse) – The match, at least in words, has already begun. Carlos Alcaraz, who will face Jannik Sinner in tomorrow’s final at the Internazionali, has added some early tension to the showdown. Asked by Spanish media about his rivalry with the world number one and about Sinner’s recent comments regarding his disappointment over the lack of support from fellow players during his doping suspension, Alcaraz responded candidly.
"In the end, everyone looks out for their own interests. There are those who will write or want to support him. I haven’t spoken to Sinner, but in the end it’s the tour – we can get along more or less. I have a good relationship off the court, but we’re not very close," admitted the Spaniard.
"It’s complicated when you’re fighting for those positions, when you’re in direct competition. But I have great respect for him, for what he’s done after three months out, and I’m very happy to see him back. I haven’t spoken to him, but it’s normal that he’s disappointed some people didn’t speak out. I can’t be friends with a rival," he added.
