Club World Cup: Palmeiras beats Al Ahly 2-0 and nears round of 16

Milan, June 19 (LaPresse) – Brazilian side Palmeiras defeated Egypt’s Al Ahly in a match valid for the second round of the Club World Cup. At Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Palmeiras took the lead in the 49th minute thanks to an own goal by Abou Ali, with Flaco Lopez doubling the advantage ten minutes later.

The match was then suspended for about half an hour due to bad weather. In Group A standings, Palmeiras temporarily sits alone at the top with 4 points, pending the result of the other match between Porto and Inter Miami. The Brazilians are now one step away from qualifying for the round of 16.
