The Turin native, ranked 47th in the world, dominated 21-year-old Portuguese player Jaime Faria, ranked 116th in the ATP rankings, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 43 minutes of play. In the second round, Sonego, whose best result at the Championships was reaching the quarter-finals in 2021, where he lost to Roger Federer, could face Lorenzo Musetti.
