Basketball, Wembanyama recovered from injury: ‘I feared I would never play again’

Milan, July 15 (LaPresse) – "I’m officially cleared to return. I’ll finally be able to play some basketball again," said San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama, announcing his expected return to the court next season. Wembanyama received medical clearance after suffering from deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder over the past few months. He shared the news in an interview with French newspaper L'Équipe. The Spurs have yet to release an official statement. Wembanyama, who was named NBA Rookie of the Year two years ago and was a Defensive Player of the Year contender last season, was diagnosed with a blood clot in February. “I was scared I wouldn’t be able to play basketball again,” he said. “We all sometimes have irrational thoughts about the things we care most about. But thoughts like that also change you as a person — for the better,” he added.
