Tennis, ATP Bastad: Darderi triumphs in final, De Jong defeated in three sets

Rome, 20 July (LaPresse) – Luciano Darderi concludes his dream week in Sweden by defeating Dutch player Jesper De Jong in three sets in the final of the ATP 250 in Bastad, winning his third title and entering the top 50. De Jong had also been in Australia on Jannik Sinner's path to his first Slam title, defeating him in the second round before heading to the red clay courts. Since then, he had only achieved good results, until Bastad. Darderi, for his part, had one of the best weeks of his career in Bastad, achieving, among other things, his first victory against a top 20 player (Cerundolo) and proving that he has both the mindset and the game to go all the way. In the final, he prevailed in three sets against the proud Dutchman with a score of 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. This result saw him repeat his title win at the start of the season in Marrakech, bringing his total number of titles to three. As a corollary, he also returned to the top 50, bringing the total number of Italian tennis players in that ranking bracket to seven.
