Tennis, WTA Cincinnati draw: Paolini and Bronzetti low down in the draw

Turin, August 6 (LaPresse) – The Cincinnati Open, the eighth WTA 1000 tournament on the 2025 calendar, will take place at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, and is also the last major lead-up to the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year. This year marks the very first time the tournament will feature an expanded 96-player draw.

For Italy, Jasmine Paolini (No. 7 seed), who will receive a bye like all other seeded players, and Lucia Bronzetti will participate.

Ranked No. 9 in the WTA and seeded 7th, Jasmine Paolini will compete in the Cincinnati Open for the fourth time. After the bye granted to seeded players, the Tuscan player—eager to quickly move past her second-round loss (her opening match) in Montreal against Japanese player Ito—will start directly in the second round against the winner of the match between a qualifier and Greek Maria Sakkari (No. 72 WTA).

Paolini’s potential path includes a third-round match against American Krueger, the 26th seed (or a possible comeback by Sevastova), and a round of 16 encounter against Czech Noskova (No. 20) or Ukrainian Svitolina (No. 10), who recently reached the quarterfinals in Montreal. In the quarterfinals, she could face Coco Gauff, No. 2 in both ranking and seeding.

Last year in Ohio, the 29-year-old from Bagni di Lucca stopped in the round of 16 against Mirra Andreeva, but her best result remains the 2023 quarterfinal, where she was stopped by Gauff.

Lucia Bronzetti, ranked No. 66, will make her debut against Chinese Zhu Lin (No. 493 WTA), who is competing with a protected ranking. The 31-year-old from Wuxi won their only previous meeting in straight sets at the first round on hard courts in Hobart in January 2024.

The winner of this match will face the newly Australian Daria Kasatkina, No. 18 in the rankings and 15th seed, in the second round. Bronzetti had already played in the Cincinnati main draw last year, having passed the qualifiers before losing to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. This week in Montreal, the Romagna native was defeated in the second round by Dane Tauson.
