WTA Cincinnati, Paolini reaches quarterfinals: Krejcikova beaten in straight sets

Rome, Aug. 14 (LaPresse) – Jasmine Paolini has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Masters 1000. The Italian, ranked No. 9 in the WTA standings, defeated Czech player Barbora Krejcikova, world No. 80, in straight sets 6-1, 6-2. During the second set, the Czech required medical attention for an ankle problem. The 29-year-old from Brno (winner of two Grand Slam singles titles) had won both previous encounters with the Italian — the first, quite some time ago, in the opening round of qualifying on the hard courts of the 2018 Australian Open, and the second in last year’s Wimbledon final on grass.
In the quarterfinals, Paolini will face American Coco Gauff, who today eliminated fellow Italian Lucia Bronzetti. Paolini defeated the American in the final of the Internazionali d’Italia in Rome.
