US Open: Zverev and De Minaur last big names to qualify

The last two top 10 players to make a winning debut at the US Open are Alexander Zverev and Alex De Minaur. The German, a finalist in this tournament in the Covid edition (2020), defeated Chilean Alejandro Tabilo 62 76 64. Zverev never lost his serve (saving 6 out of 6 break points), but at 5-6 in the second set he had to save a set point before forcing the set to a tie-break, which he won relatively easily 7-4. In the third set, Tabilo played his best tennis, holding out until the final break in the last game of the match. Zverev now awaits Britain's Jacob Fearnley (232) in the second round. Alex De Minaur, seeded number 9, also advanced, defeating his compatriot Christopher O'Connell 6-3, 6-4, 6-4. Tommu Paul also advanced (6-3, 6-3, 6-1 against Moller), while 38-year-old Gael Monfils exited the tournament, defeated in five sets by Roman Safiullin (6-4, 2-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 in favour of the Russian).
