F1: Andrea de Adamich, former driver and Mediaset personality, dies at 84

Milan, 5 November (LaPresse) – The motorsport world is mourning the death of Andrea de Adamich, former Formula 1 driver and renowned Mediaset commentator, at the age of 84. Born in Trieste, he made his debut in motor racing in 1962, according to SportMediaset, and enjoyed a successful career. First as an Alfa Romeo driver: after winning the Italian Formula 3 title in 1965, he was hired by Alfa Romeo, with whom he won two European Touring Car Championships (1966-67) in a Giulia GTA. He then moved on to Formula 1 and Prototypes: he competed in five F1 seasons starting in 1968, racing for prestigious teams such as Ferrari, McLaren, March, Surtees and Brabham. He alternated between the top category and the World Prototype Championship, achieving two victories with Alfa Romeo. After retiring in 1974, de Adamich became a well-known television personality on Mediaset for motorsports, serving as a commentator from 1978 to 2009 alongside Guido Schittone. In 1991, he founded the Centro Internazionale Guida Sicura (International Safe Driving Centre), continuing his historic collaboration with Alfa Romeo. In recognition of his achievements, on 2 June 2022 he was appointed Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
