Football, Italy U20: Azzurri defeated by Portugal 2-1 in friendly match

Rome, 14 November (LaPresse) – A bitter ending condemns the Italian U20 national team: in their first match after the World Cup, Nunziata's boys were defeated 2-1 in a friendly match against Portugal in Viareggio. After a fairly balanced first half with no major highlights on either side, the Azzurrini took the lead early in the second half thanks to Postiglione's header from a corner kick. Shortly after the half-hour mark, Portugal equalised through Rodrigo Ribeiro, then in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time, Mauro Couto scored the decisive winner. At the end of the match, Carmine Nunziata tried to analyse this game with a clear head, despite the decidedly bitter ending. ‘It leaves a bitter taste in the mouth,’ he commented, ‘because in my opinion we played very well, considering that this is a group that has only recently come together. The lads played well, but we paid for some mistakes that we could have avoided. I congratulate them on how they played, but we could have managed the end of the match much better.’
