Turin, 21 December (LaPresse) – "Last night I played at home. And I didn't feel at home. In my 12-year career, I had never witnessed or experienced such behaviour from the public, who should be supporting their team. Mistakes can be made. It's part of the game, part of the job, part of being human. What is not part of this sport are insults, constant booing, personal offences and racist comments, directed not only at me but also at my family in the stands. From the first point to the last. Not to spur us on. Not to support us. Just to hurt us." This is the complaint recounted in an Instagram post by volleyball player Adhu Malual, opposite hitter for Monviso Volley and player for the Italian national team, the day after the A1 women's championship match between Pinerolo and Macerata. "I am proud to be Italian. I am proud to play in one of the strongest leagues in the world. I am proud to wear the blue jersey because the love I feel for this country, which is my home, is indescribable. And I will not allow anyone to question that. Everyone has bad moments, in any field. There is a fine line between cheering and disrespect. Last night, that line was crossed several times,‘ she emphasised. ’And when it is not only the athlete on the court who pays the price, but also the team and her family in the stands, then the problem is not a sporting one. It is a human one. I will continue to do my job. With dignity. With professionalism. With respect for this sport. But one thing must be made clear: silence in the face of certain behaviour is no longer an option. I thank the club for their support and the fans who recognise my commitment and understand this delicate moment.
