Milan, 25 December (LaPresse/AP) – John Robertson, former Scottish winger and two-time European Cup winner with Nottingham Forest, as well as scorer of the decisive goal in the 1980 final against Hamburg in Madrid, has died at the age of 72. The English club said in a statement that it was “saddened to announce the passing of Nottingham Forest legend and dear friend, John Robertson. Rest in peace, Robbo”. The cause of death has not been disclosed. Robertson made 28 appearances for Scotland during his five-year international career, which saw him play in the 1982 World Cup. As part of the team that won the European Cup twice – in 1979 and 1980 – Robertson became a true legend for Forest fans. In addition to scoring in the 1980 final, which ended 1-0 for the English, he also provided the assist for Trevor Francis' decisive goal in the 1979 final against Malmö of Sweden in Munich. He played for Forest for most of his career, apart from a brief spell (from 1983 to 1985) when he played for Derby County.
