Adelboden (Switzerland), Jan. 10 (LaPresse) – Marco Odermatt claimed his fifth consecutive victory in the giant slalom in Adelboden (Switzerland), delighting the home crowd; Luca De Aliprandini finished 18th, while Alex Vinatzer made a mistake at the start of the second run after lying seventh at the halfway point. Leading with a solid margin after the first run, Odermatt managed the difficulties caused by snowfall and poor visibility perfectly in the second, setting the reference time at 2’31"23 to maintain a 0.49-second advantage over Lucas Pinheiro Bråthen, just as at mid-race. The third step of the podium therefore went to France’s Leo Anguenot (+0"68), outstanding in securing fourth place with bib 27 in the morning before completing his climb at the expense of Norway’s Timon Haugan, who slipped to fourth place ahead of compatriot Henrik Kristoffersen. Luca De Aliprandini recovered seven positions, with his 18th place marking his best result of the season. Third last year, the skier from Trentino handled the first run well with strong reference points, but a mistake three gates from the finish forced him to face 25th place at the halfway mark. In the second run, the 35-year-old from Val di Non pushed hard and moved up, finishing 2"79 behind Odermatt. An unlucky second run instead for Vinatzer: a brilliant seventh in the first run, the skier from Gardena tried to attack the decisive descent but went down after just a few gates, ending in 26th place at 9"62.
