NBA: Clippers win Los Angeles derby, Fontecchio not enough for Miami

Milan, 23 January (LaPresse) – Eight games were played on an NBA night marked by the eagerly awaited Los Angeles derby. The Clippers beat the Lakers 112-104 with 25 points from Kawhi Leonard and 18 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists from James Harden. The usual Luka Doncic with 32 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists and the eternal LeBron James with 23 points were not enough for the purple and gold. Another excellent performance by Simone Fontecchio was not enough for the Miami Heat, who were defeated 127-110 by the Portland Trail Blazers, led by Shaedon Sharpe's 27 points. The Italian, who came off the bench, scored 17 points in almost 25 minutes on the court. In other games, the Charlotte Hornets defeated the Orlando Magic 124-97 with 20 points from Brandon Miller, while the Philadelphia 76ers defeated the Houston Rockets 128-122 in overtime thanks to 32 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists from Joel Embiid. Kevin Durant's 36 points were not enough for the Rockets. Still without Nikola Jokic, the Denver Nuggets won 107-97 away against the Washington Wizards with 35 points and 8 rebounds from Peyton Watson. The Dallas Mavericks won 123-115 at home against the Golden State Warriors thanks to 21 points and 11 rebounds from rookie Copper Flagg. Steph Curry's 38 points were not enough for the Californians. The Chicago Bulls won 120-115 away against the Minnesota Timberwolves with 22 points from Coby White, as did the San Antonio Spurs, who beat the Utah Jazz 126-109 at home thanks to Victor Wembanyama's double-double with 26 points and 14 rebounds and De'Aaron Fox's 31 points.
