Rome, 30 Jan. (LaPresse) – "Security is the daily priority of men and women in uniform, and even without uniform, who do this for our peace of mind. So what will happen at the Games, which are very large and also very complex, will be the result of the Italian model of public order and security of the Ministry of the Interior in these cases, with the support of the Ministry of Defence, the Carabinieri and the Finance Police. It will be a team effort that will above all guarantee the direction and centrality of the model, i.e. those who govern it." This was stated by the Minister of Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, in an interview with LaPresse, responding to questions about security at the Milan-Cortina Games and whether this will be a “priority” for Italy or other countries following rumours of a possible presence of ICE and Pasdaran on Italian territory. "In all major events, especially the Olympic and Paralympic Games, other national entities are involved, but they intervene in accordance with the protocols of the host country. So, from this point of view, I don't see any risks in the model. I see the risks of a situation that is very susceptible to interference from crime and international terrorism. The more we legitimise, trust and rely on this model, the easier it will be to contain and limit the risks," added the minister. ‘Will there be counter-terrorism from other countries? There is no doubt about it, it is inevitable. Our security depends on the forces we see and the forces we do not see, which nevertheless contribute to our peace of mind,’ he concludes.
