Milan, 3 Feb. (LaPresse) – “We thank our Italian friends, everything is ready to welcome the world’s best athletes. As we prepare to share these moments, we remember that athletes are the joy of the Games and of the entire Olympic movement. They remind us of our goal, which is to celebrate them and help them inspire the world.” This was stated by President Kirsty Coventry in her speech during the 145th IOC session.
“These are the first Games of my presidency; I could not be more excited to experience them together with all of you. I would like to give special recognition to our Honorary President Thomas Bach, who joined us today. Thank you for everything you have done, and I am very proud to be here,” she added.
“Since I started working last summer, you have shown me openness and affection in this new chapter. All of us share the power of sport and our responsibility to protect it,” Coventry said.
“The Olympics are a celebration of the betterment of humanity. Athletes from all over the world live together, respecting one another as human friends. This is the foundation of our mission, to strengthen the Olympics so that they can continue to inspire, unite, and bring hope to the world,” Coventry concluded.
