NBA: Knicks halt Spurs' winning streak, Celtics and Lakers win

Milan, 2 March (LaPresse) – Eleven games were played last night in the NBA, and the San Antonio Spurs' winning streak came to an end at eleven, as they were soundly beaten by the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden, 114-89. The Knicks were led by Mikail Bridges with 25 points and Jalen Brunson with 24, while Victor Wembanyama's double-double of 25 points and 13 rebounds was not enough for the Spurs. Both Western and Eastern Conference leaders won. The Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Dallas Mavericks 100-87 with 30 points from the usual Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, while the Detroit Pistons won 106-92 at the Orlando Magic with Cade Cunningham scoring 29 points and 11 assists. Also in the East, the Boston Celtics beat the Philadelphia 76ers 114-98, with the surprising Portuguese Neemias Queta leading the way with a double-double of 27 points and 17 rebounds. The Sixers' 33 points from Tyrese Maxey were not enough. Back in the West, the Minnesota Timberwolves defeated the Denver Nuggets 117-108 thanks to 21 points from Anthony Edwards. Nikola Jokic came close to a triple-double, finishing with 35 points, 13 rebounds and 9 assists, but it was not enough for Denver. Both Los Angeles teams won, with the Lakers beating the Sacramento Kings 128-104 with 28 points from Luka Doncic and 24 from LeBron James; the Clippers won 137-117 against the New Orleans Pelicans with 23 points from Kawhi Leonard and 19 from Jordan Miller off the bench. In other games, a triple-double from Josh Giddey with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists allowed the Chicago Bulls to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 120-97. The Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Brooklyn Nets 106-102 with 22 points from James Harden. Finally, the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Indiana Pacers 125-106 and the Atlanta Hawks beat the Portland Trail Blazers 135-101 with 25 points from Onyeka Okongwu.
