Europa League: Bologna through to the quarter-finals, Roma beaten 4-3 in extra time

Turin, 19 Mar. (LaPresse) – Bologna beat Roma 4-3 in extra time at the Olimpico and qualify for the Europa League quarter-finals, where they will face Aston Villa. Cambiaghi’s goal, following a one-two with Dallinga in the 6th minute of the second half of extra time, proved decisive. Earlier, Rowe had opened the scoring with a diagonal shot from a tight angle in the 22nd minute; ten minutes later, the hosts equalised in a goalmouth scramble with a header from Ndicka following a corner, immediately after Pellegrini had hit the post with a direct free-kick. In stoppage time, El Shaarawy clumsily brought down Zortea in the box; the referee awarded a penalty, which Bernardeschi converted to put the Emiliani back in front. In the second half, a rocket from outside the box by Castro in the 13th minute made it three, but the Giallorossi did not give up and snatched the equaliser that took the game into extra time thanks to a penalty converted by Malen in the 24th minute and a clinical finish by Pellegrino in the 35th minute. That was until Cambiaghi’s goal, which finally condemned the Giallorossi to a bitter elimination.
