Football, Abete: ‘The Baggio case? The federation's centres need ongoing support’

Turin, 7 April (LaPresse) – " The Baggio dossier has in fact already been taken forward within the Federation since Tavecchio’s presidency; it was a dossier that identified technical training centres across the country where training activities could be carried out for young men and women. This has happened: at Federation level, the federal technical centres exist, and clearly they must be supported with financial commitments and also with a different level of continuity compared to the past" . This was stated by the president of the National Amateur League, Giancarlo Abete, speaking in Turin at the headquarters of the Piedmont Region on the sidelines of the presentation of the ‘Vinciamo Insieme’ project organised by the FIGC and the LND regarding the Baggio dossier, presented in 2011, entitled ‘Rinnovare il Futuro’, which aimed at the renewal of Italian football. “It is a significant investment across the whole country, bearing in mind, moreover, that the registered members are clubs, not federations,” he continued. “We must start from the premise that a balance must be struck between general issues and the specific challenges faced by clubs. There needs to be a collective effort; we cannot expect the federation to impose something on a private entity where the rules do not permit it. ‘We must be honest about what is possible and what is not.’
