Rocchi case: Chinè: ‘The reconstructions in the referees' inquiry are untruthful and fanciful’

Turin, 26 April (LaPresse) – "As certain media outlets have in recent hours been circulating untrue and even fanciful reports, bearing no relation whatsoever to the reality of events, solely for the purpose of safeguarding the timely and scrupulous work of the FIGC Federal Prosecutor’s Office, which I am honoured to lead, I wish to confirm that on 21 May 2025 I received only the complaint signed by assistant referee Domenico Rocca, regarding the alleged external interference in the VAR room by referee designator Rocchi during the Udinese-Parma match.” This is stated in a note from Federal Prosecutor Giuseppe Chinè. “Following this complaint, in full compliance with the provisions of the Code of Sports Justice, a sports investigation was immediately opened, involving the hearing of all parties involved and those with possible knowledge of the facts described by the complainant,” he added – Following these preliminary investigations and the testimonies given by those present at the Lissone facility, no conduct warranting sporting disciplinary action was found against any AIA member. As provided for by the current Code of Sports Justice, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office therefore proposed, in July 2025, to the General Sports Prosecutor’s Office at CONI that the sports disciplinary proceedings be dismissed. This proposal, in light of the investigative proceedings carried out, and notably the content of the statements made by all those interviewed, was endorsed by the General Sports Prosecutor’s Office.
