Serie A: Como secure a win at Marassi thanks to Douvikas and Diao; Genoa lose 2-0

Milan, 26 Apr. (LaPresse) – Como refuse to give up. The team managed by Cesc Fàbregas secured a 2-0 away win against Genoa in a match counting towards the 34th round of the Serie A season, keeping them in the hunt for a place in Europe’s top competitions. Thanks to goals from Douvikas and Diao, the Larians are level on points with Roma in fifth place on 61 points, two points behind fourth-placed Juventus, who face Milan away this evening. After two wins, however, De Rossi’s Genoa side’s run comes to an end; they remain on 39 points but are still 11 points clear of the relegation zone. In the first half, Genoa immediately took control of the match, but it was Como who took the lead after 10 minutes with a header from Douvikas following a cross from Da Cunha. With the deadlock broken, Como dictated the play and even hit the post through Nico Paz. For their part, Genoa tried to pose a threat only through Ekhator’s pace. In the second half, De Rossi’s side tried to up the tempo, but without managing to trouble the Como defence all that much. Como, ever the opportunist, then doubled their lead at the first chance of the second half through Diao, who was quick to capitalise in the penalty area on a misplaced clearance by Caqueret following a cross from the byline by Baturina. For Genoa, it was the knockout blow; their bid for survival has been postponed. Como, meanwhile, are back to putting pressure on Juventus in the race for a Champions League spot.
