Football, Malagò: ‘There is still time to make up our minds about the FIGC candidacy’

Rome, 11 May (LaPresse) – "Am I ready to lift my reservations? I promised the parties I met, out of fairness and respect, to wait for them to make their decision. There is still plenty of time until Wednesday evening.” So said Giovanni Malagò, the Lega Serie A candidate for FIGC president, to those asking him if he is ready to lift his reservations regarding his candidacy for the Italian Football Federation. “Today it is right that the spotlight should be on President Coventry, a mark of class; we will visit President Meloni and then Mattarella tomorrow,” Malagò continued. As for the fixtures and the overcrowding between derbies and international matches, the former CONI president emphasised that it has now been “a few years since the Foro Italico has hosted various events. It can happen; common sense is needed, and we mustn’t dig our heels in on certain positions”. Malagò hopes “the construction of stadiums will be accelerated, so there will be no more problems. The fixtures are the responsibility of the Serie A League; there is this issue of clashes with tennis. There have been complications because the problems stem from the fact that Lazio play on Wednesdays and cannot play on Saturdays. Let’s hope we don’t find ourselves in this situation again next year.”
