Rome, 11 May (LaPresse) – “I believe that after the Winter Olympics, we have a duty to keep believing and to envisage a path that might lead to Rome’s bid for 2036.” So said CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio at the presentation of the 93rd edition of Piazza di Siena, regarding the possibility of a bid by Rome for the 2036 Summer Games. “Just look at what the sports federations, Sport e Salute and the government are doing. All together, from the Internazionali to Piazza di Siena, from the Coppa Italia final to the Golden Gala, taekwondo and the Giro d’Italia – I don’t know how many nations are capable of organising and sustaining all this. Without the work of the military sports teams, we wouldn’t achieve all these victories. At last, we’re all working together,” added the CONI chief. “Each of you is building and putting Italian sport in the spotlight around the world. Rome is proving it has all the capabilities, expertise and people to do this. Through all these events, a team has been built that can aspire to great things. Major sporting events and great sporting victories serve this purpose: to ensure young people follow the best examples. Major sporting events leave a lasting legacy for the city and its citizens. CONI is simply proud to be here alongside a historic and glorious federation such as FISE, which is set to win a medal at the upcoming Olympics,” concluded Buonfiglio in his speech.
