Milan, 12 May (LaPresse) – Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has called for new elections and announced his intention to stand for another term, claiming he is “the victim of a campaign to oust him”. Pérez has denied rumours that he is tired of his role or ill, claiming they were spread by his opponents. The president made these statements following a meeting of the club’s board of directors, two days after Real Madrid’s 2-0 defeat to Barcelona, which saw their Catalan rivals clinch their second consecutive Spanish La Liga title. This means that Real Madrid have ended a second consecutive season without a major trophy, despite the presence in the squad of French star Kylian Mbappé.
