Turin, 24 May (LaPresse) – De Zerbi’s Tottenham beat Everton 1-0 on the final day of the Premier League season to secure their survival, maintaining a two-point lead over West Ham, who thrashed Leeds 3-0 but could not avoid relegation to the Championship. Palhinha’s goal in the 43rd minute of the first half proved decisive for the Spurs. As for the European places, Chelsea lost 2-1 to Sunderland and missed out on European competition, finishing the season in tenth place. The victory came courtesy of a goal from Hume and an own goal by Malo Gusto, allowing the Black Cats to secure a Europa League spot alongside Bournemouth, who snatched a draw away at Nottingham Forest (1-1). With Chelsea’s defeat, Brighton have reason to smile; despite a heavy home defeat against Manchester United (3-0, goals from Dorgu, Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes), they have qualified for the Conference League. Aston Villa ‘ruined’ Pep Guardiola’s final match in charge of Manchester City. Semenyo opened the scoring, but Emery’s men turned the match around in the second half thanks to a brace from Watkins. Finally, Arsenal, the English champions and awaiting their Champions League final against PSG, ended the league campaign with a 2-1 win away at Crystal Palace. Gabriel Jesus and Madueke found the net, with Mateta pulling one back in the closing stages.
