Volleyball: Velasco’s Italy beat Poland 3-2 to win the tournament in Genoa

Milan, 25 May (LaPresse) – The AIA Aequilibrium Cup Women Elite concluded with a victory for the Italian women’s team; the decisive factor this evening was the world champions’ 3-2 win over Poland (26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11). At the end of a hard-fought match lasting over two hours, Cambi and her teammates managed to get the better of the Polish national team. Among the crowd of around 2,000 spectators in the stands were Italian Volleyball Federation President Giuseppe Manfredi and Mayor Silvia Salis, whose administration provided significant support for the tournament, thereby bringing top-level international volleyball back to Genoa. The MVP of the AIA Aequilibrium Cup Women Elite went to Italian middle blocker Linda Manfredini. Italy thus ended the three-day tournament in the Ligurian capital unbeaten, having played three very useful warm-up matches ahead of the first week of the Volleyball Nations League: from 3 to 8 June, the Azzurre will be in action in Brasília against Bulgaria, the Netherlands, Turkey and Brazil.
