Russian Daniil Medvedev, who had pushed the Italian hard in the Rome semi-final, was eliminated in the first round by Australian Adam Walton after a five-set battle. The world number 97 defeated Medvedev, the sixth seed, with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4.
