Milan, 6 June (LaPresse) – Eighteen-year-old German midfielder Lennart Karl has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a thigh injury sustained in training on Friday, ahead of Germany’s final pre-World Cup friendly against the United States. Karl was considered one of the best young talents in any World Cup squad, following an exceptional season with Bayern Munich, where he became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s Champions League history. Karl has been replaced in the squad by midfielder Assan Ouédraogo, in accordance with World Cup regulations which allow for the inclusion of additional players in the event of serious injuries.
