Nigeria: at least 70 killed in petrol tanker truck explosion

Abuja (Nigeria), Jan 18 (LaPresse/AP) – In the absence of an efficient rail freight system, fatal truck accidents are common along most major roads in Nigeria, Africa's most populous country. In September, an explosion killed at least 48 people in Niger State after a petrol tanker collided with another truck carrying livestock. According to the Nigerian Federal Road Safety Corps, there were 1,531 accidents involving petrol tankers in 2020, resulting in 535 deaths and 1,142 injuries.
