Cinema, MeToo case in France: "Director Ruggia convicted of sexual violence"

Paris (France), Feb. 3 (LaPresse) – Paris judges have found director Christophe Ruggia guilty of sexual violence against French actress Adèle Haenel when she was between 12 and 15 years old in the early 2000s. The case has been described as the MeToo of French cinema. Ruggia was sentenced to four years in prison, with two years suspended and two to be served under house arrest with an electronic bracelet. Ruggia has denied any wrongdoing. Haenel, now 35, was the first high-profile actress in France to accuse the film industry of turning a blind eye to sexual abuse following the rise of the MeToo movement. In 2019, she accused Ruggia of repeatedly touching her inappropriately during and after the filming of Les Diables in the early 2000s.
