Turkey, more than 50 arrests for ‘provocative’ posts after Imamoglu's imprisonment

Rome, 21 Mar. (LaPresse) – The Turkish authorities have arrested 54 people for ‘incitement to commit crimes’ via social media following the arrest of the mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu. This was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya on X. During the demonstrations in the city, 16 police officers were injured. ‘Calling the people to the streets and squares is irresponsible, to say the least,’ he wrote, inviting the population not to be ‘deceived by the provocateurs’.
