Bangkok (Thailand), Mar 28 (LaPresse/AP) – A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake shook Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, causing buildings to sway. The US Geological Survey and Germany’s GFZ geoscience center stated that the quake, recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, had its epicenter in neighboring Myanmar. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties. The greater Bangkok area is home to over 17 million people, many of whom live in large apartment buildings. Many buildings were evacuated during the quake. Alarms were triggered when the earthquake struck around 1:30 PM, and residents were evacuated via stairwells from condominiums and high-rise hotels in the densely populated city center.
