Milan, 26 April (LaPresse) – “Today in Rome I met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni,” ’I appreciate Giorgia Meloni's clear and principled position.’ This was written on X by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, reporting on his meeting today with Meloni in Rome, where he was attending the funeral of Pope Francis. ‘We discussed the importance of security guarantees for Ukraine and efforts to restore peace and protect human lives,’ Zelensky said. ‘Forty-six days ago, Ukraine agreed to a complete and unconditional ceasefire, but for 46 days Russia has continued to kill our people. Therefore, particular attention was paid to the importance of putting pressure on Russia,’ he continued. Zelensky also reported that he had informed Meloni ‘of the constructive talks held by the Ukrainian delegation with representatives of the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Germany in Paris and London.’ ‘The common position is that an unconditional ceasefire must be the first step towards achieving sustainable peace in Ukraine,’ the Ukrainian head of state reiterated.
