Dubai (United Arab Emirates), 17 June (LaPresse/AP) – The International Atomic Energy Agency has stated that it believes Israeli air strikes on the Natanz enrichment site in Iran have had a ‘direct impact’ on the underground centrifuge rooms at the plant. This is the first time that the UN agency that monitors nuclear activity has assessed the damage caused by the attacks on the underground parts of Natanz, which is the main enrichment facility in Iran's nuclear programme. ‘Based on continued analysis of high-resolution satellite imagery collected after Friday's attacks, the IAEA has identified additional elements indicating a direct impact on the underground enrichment halls at Natanz,’ the agency said. An above-ground enrichment hall had already been destroyed, as well as electrical equipment that powered the facility.
