Madrid (Spain), June 19 (LaPresse) – Spain’s Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Labour, Yolanda Díaz, leader of the progressive platform Sumar and government ally of the PSOE, has called on Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to provide “guarantees” that the corruption case involving the now-former number three of the Socialist Party, Santos Cerdán—along with his predecessor and former advisor Koldo García—will not widen within the party, potentially uncovering illicit financing of the political organization.
In an interview with Telecinco, as reported by El País, Díaz also urged the prime minister to adopt clear measures for the “prevention and eradication of corruption.” She set the upcoming meeting of the PSOE–Sumar coalition oversight body as the final deadline for receiving such guarantees. The date for the meeting has yet to be scheduled, but Díaz warned that if the necessary assurances are not provided at that time, Sumar will make decisions “in another direction.” While she did not explicitly mention withdrawing from the government, her words strongly suggested that possibility.
