Serbia, protests in Belgrade against arrests of anti-government demonstrators

Belgrade, June 30 (LaPresse) – Thousands of people in Serbia organized road blockades to demand the release of anti-government protesters arrested during clashes with police. The blockades were set up on Sunday in Belgrade and other cities, following a large demonstration the day before calling for early elections. Protesters accuse the government of inciting violence and label it as illegitimate. Police reported 48 officers injured and 77 arrests, with 38 people still in custody. President Aleksandar Vucic condemned the unrest, accusing protesters of attempting to destabilize the state. The demonstrations began months ago after a deadly infrastructure collapse, with critics accusing Vucic of authoritarianism and corruption.
