Frankfurt (Germany), July 3 (LaPresse) – German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is pushing for direct negotiations with the Taliban regime in Afghanistan regarding the deportation of Afghan criminals from Germany. "I plan to reach agreements directly with Afghanistan to facilitate repatriations," he said in an interview with Focus magazine. Currently, contacts with the Taliban occur only through third parties.
The Interior Minister also aims to reach an agreement with the Syrian leadership on the repatriation of its citizens. "It is clear that there are two other extremely important challenges that remain unresolved: deportations to Syria and Afghanistan," said Dobrindt. "At the moment, there are no agreements with either country." However, Dobrindt stated that contacts with Syria are already underway regarding the repatriation of Syrian criminals. So far, no results have been achieved.
