Libya, Brunner: ‘Mission in Tripoli concluded, meetings in Benghazi cancelled’

Brussels, 8 July (LaPresse) – "We have just concluded our mission to Libya together with the ministers responsible for migration from Greece, Italy and Malta. In Tripoli, we had in-depth talks with Prime Minister Dbeibeh, Foreign Minister Al-Baour, Interior Minister Trabelsi and Labour Minister Al-Abed. We discussed common challenges in the field of migration and reaffirmed our joint commitment to combating migrant smuggling. This mission has laid the foundations for broader cooperation. The meetings planned in Benghazi could not take place in the end. This was written on social media by EU Migration Commissioner Magnus Brunner after the European delegation, together with ministers from Italy, Greece and Malta, were not allowed to enter Benghazi by the authorities in eastern Libya, the so-called Government of National Stability led by Osama Saad Hammad.
