EU: S&D gets European Social Fund in budget, yes to von der Leyen

Brussels, 9 Jul (LaPresse) – The S&D group has obtained from the Commission that the European Social Fund+ (ESF+) will be included in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF). This was announced by the Socialists and Democrats on social media. "A great victory for citizens. Our battle for social inclusion continues!" they comment. The result rules out abstention by the Socialists tomorrow in the no-confidence motion and paves the way for the reconfirmation of confidence in Ursula von der Leyen, LaPresse learns from S&D sources. The confirmation also comes from the leader of the PD delegation himself, Nicola Zingaretti: 'We have achieved a victory. The European Social Fund is safe. We did well to ask for clear signals from Ursula von Der Leyen,' he commented in a note. 'A confirmation that in this parliament it is important to fight everything. Of course it is only a first step. Now on the MFF budget, the green deal, we will come back with all our might to take the initiative to condition the parliament and keep a pro-European majority alive'.
