Milan, July 11 (LaPresse) – An investigation has been opened in France against Elon Musk’s social media platform X, on suspicion of manipulating its algorithm to promote foreign interference. This was announced by the Paris Prosecutor’s Office in a statement seen by Ouest-France. The investigation was officially launched on July 9 but only made public today. “Based on checks, input from French researchers, and evidence provided by various public institutions, on July 9, 2025, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation led by the General Directorate of the National Gendarmerie against the platform X (formerly Twitter), as a legal entity and against several individuals,” the statement reads. The probe focuses on the following suspected offenses: "manipulating an automated data processing system as part of an organized group" and "fraudulent extraction of data from such a system by an organized group."
