Milan, July 16 (LaPresse) – Israeli aircraft have struck the headquarters of the Syrian Ministry of Defense in the heart of the capital, Damascus. This is the second Israeli raid on the building, after it was previously attacked by drones a few hours earlier. This second strike caused significant damage. Syrian state media report that “several people were injured” in the attack but did not provide further details. The building is located near the busy Omayyad Square.
Israel has launched a series of attacks against Syrian government forces in the southern province of Sweida. The Israeli government claims the action is in support of the Druze community.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense had previously accused militias from the predominantly Druze area of Sweida of violating the ceasefire agreement reached on Tuesday, forcing Syrian army soldiers to return fire. The Druze, in turn, accuse government forces and their allies of sectarian attacks, looting, and beatings during the ongoing military operation.
