Spain, France: ‘We are working together on Catalan recognition, but there is no consensus’

Brussels, 18 July (LaPresse) – "I know that the recognition of Catalan, Basque and Galician as EU languages is a very important issue for our Spanish friends, and I have had the opportunity to discuss it several times with my counterpart. We had this conversation at the previous General Council, where no consensus emerged." This was stated by French Minister for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad upon his arrival at the General Affairs Council. ‘I hope we can continue to work with the Spanish to find constructive solutions to move forward on the budgetary and legal levels, once again, with great respect for the importance this represents for them. France is therefore committed to working with the Spanish and all our partners to move forward and find consensual solutions,’ he added.
