Syria, Saar: "Al-Sharaa’s speech supports jihadists, a danger to minorities"

Milan, July 19 (LaPresse) – "The speech by Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa was a show of support for jihadist attackers (in Al-Sharaa’s words: ‘Bedouin tribes as a symbol of noble values and principles’) and a condemnation of the victims (the attacked Druze minority)." This is what Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar wrote in a post on social media platform X, following the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Syria in the province of Sweida. "Conclusion: in Al-Sharaa’s Syria, it is very dangerous to be a member of a minority — whether Kurdish, Druze, Alawite or Christian. This has been demonstrated repeatedly over the past six months," Saar added. "The international community has a duty to ensure the safety and rights of minorities in Syria, and to condition Syria’s reintegration into the family of nations on their protection."
