Paris, July 27 (LaPresse) – French President Emmanuel Macron explained in a post on X that he spoke with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
“Three months after my state visit to Egypt,” he said on social media, “we reviewed our cooperation and discussed at length the unacceptable humanitarian situation in Gaza. The ongoing blockade of aid and the expansion of the Israeli intervention represent an unsustainable risk of famine and forced displacement of the population.”
“We cannot accept that people, especially many children, die of hunger,” Macron continued, explaining that “the conference on July 28-29 in New York must open a new dynamic in favor of a just and lasting solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, based on two states, the only solution capable of guaranteeing peace and security for everyone in the region. Egypt, together with the United Kingdom, chairs the working group on the reconstruction of Gaza and the West Bank. I thank President al-Sisi for Egypt’s contribution to the success of this conference and I thank him for it.”
“This work will continue at the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September, where I will recognize the State of Palestine,” the French president reiterated, adding that “I have been working for months to involve other states in this process, sending a clear message: peace is possible.”
Macron closed the post on the social network with a list of actions needed to overcome the crisis in the Middle East: “Ceasefire. Release of all hostages. Massive and immediate humanitarian aid to the population of Gaza. Demilitarization of Hamas. Protect and rebuild Gaza. Demilitarized State of Palestine that fully recognizes Israel.”
